Before my twin sister gave birth five months ago, she detailed in her blog how she coped with her nesting instinct. Now, I think I'm having the same feeling.
For the past couple of days, I've been waking up at 430am, either due to a nocturnal restroom trip or due to contractions/braxton hicks. This Monday morning is not an exception.
Though I was still groggy with sleep (Leo and I only went to sleep at 1130 last night), my mind started thinking of the things that I need to do today. I originally thought of going to work but my back pains are really bothering me so I don't think I'll be efficient. I'll just wait it out here at home. So my 90 day maternity leave started last Friday and here I am waiting with people texting and asking me if I've given birth already. I've already turned off my phone and just open it from time to time. Instead, I've focused my mind on preparing for the baby's arrival.
My yaya arrived on Saturday night and we went to SM yesterday to buy her 3 sets of uniforms (2 sets of white ones with blue piping and a blue cotton one. Yeah! Looks really spiffy on her). I'm sending her to the village clinic later for some medical tests to ensure that she doesn't have anything that the baby might catch.
Last night, she and I cleaned out the other room and moved some stuff. Since I'll be exclusively breastfeeding, we reaaranged some stuff and moved the crib to our room. We've unpacked the linens and other stuff that have been kept in their boxes since I've gotten them. However, I'm still not yet satisfied with the way things are so I'll probably do another round of cleaning later. And by cleaning, I mean just sitting on a chair and directing Yaya Amy what to do (hehehe). Hey, my doctor did caution me on bending or squatting too much and my back does hurt! :)
I also intend to tackle my long-delayed project of fixing our pictures. It's still there buried in the baul all mixed together. I already took out the pictures frames that we got as wedding gifts and would want to hang them. However, I need our all-around handyman to help me with the hanging as we need to drill holes in the wall. Unfortunately, he's still out of town so I just have to wait. I need a hole drilled in for my bag hanger too. Leo and I tried the 3M hook ones but they won't adhere to the wall. Either the weight of the handbags together are too much or the wallpaper's texture is not smooth enough. Right now, all my handbags are stacked together in the baby's room and it's an irritating sight.
I'll also go to church this evening (of course I'll walk). In my impatience on getting the birth over with, I've forgotten how I should be wording my prayers. I've forgotten that God's will should supercede my wants. So I've just lifted everything to God and asked for His forgiveness for my lapse. I've changed my prayers from "Please let me give birth now!" to "Please give me the strength and patience to get through this and to accept Your will as my own." Somehow, it gave me the peace and strength that I needed to get through the contraction-less hours. It was also the time that my nesting instinct kicked in. Must be God giving me the necessary distraction that I needed. :)
I was asthmatic when I was a kid, so physical exercises were not my kind of thing. I never ran or jogged--so I walked.

Day 3 of Block Leave
After a hard day of cleaning yesterday, I resolved to just take it easy today.
Late this morning, Leo and I went to Town Center. I bought a copy of the latest issue of YES! magazine (it's the only local showbiz magazine that I read) and had lunch at Mexicali (somehow, the food tastes different there compared to their branch in RCBC). Afterwards, we had dessert at Razon's (love the halo-halo yumyum) and did some shopping at National Bookstore and Toys R Us.
When Leo took me home, I resumed wrapping gifts. Late in the afternoon, I realized that I underestimated the gift wrappers so we're going to the bazaar tomorrow morning to buy some more and probably buy gifts as well.
There's something therapeutic about gift wrapping, probably like origami. Though my skills are pretty simple and sometimes crude, I love taping and folding the wrappers. I've even copied the style of the professional gift wrappers by using double-sided adhesive (yeah, it's more expensive than scotch tape but hey, it makes the gift look clean!). I don't have ribbons though but I did have custom-made gift tag-stickers done at Robee Stickers (I love this shop! Too bad they closed their branch here at Town Center. Now I have to go all the way to Glorietta 3 to have the stickers made).
To make sure my lower back doesn't ache too much from the sitting, I placed two cushions on my monoblock chair. To set the mood, I even played christmas songs while wrapping! Now, the baby's room is again a mess but it's due to the Christmas gifts scattered all over the room.
We went to Alba's at Westgate for dinner to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday. It was my first time to eat there and the food was ok. We got Chris (my BIL) some golf balls which he can use in the driving range.
I'll probably sleep in an hour. I'm happy though as I sleep throughout the night (with a couple of bathroom breaks in between). I now wake up at 7 or 8 AM. I don't nap anymore in the afternoon though as I get enough sleep throughout the night. Maybe when I'm done with the wrapping and cleaning, I'll resume my old habit of napping in the afternoon.

Day 2 of Block Leave
Finally, I was able to start cleaning the baby's room. I threw away 4 garbage bags worth of stuff (some of them are actually trash while others will be given away). I'm really anxious to have the baby cabinet fixed so I can start putting away the baby clothes.
I also managed to organize Leo's papers into files and folders. My new system surely beats his old system of just stuffing everything in the filing cabinet that it's already overflowing.
In the next few days, I'll start wrapping and tagging presents and figure out who else I need to shop for. My last project is to fix all our pictures and hang them either in the baby's room or our room. A lot of people gave us really nice pictures frames for our wedding last year and I can't wait to put them to use.
All that hard work really drained me though. My lower back and hamstrings are aching. I would expect the lower back but my hamstrings? My doctor said that it's due to my center of gravity shifting. My stomach is really big now and I can feel the aches more than ever.
