The Oscars

I enjoy watching award shows--maybe because I get to see my favourite actors and actresses all in one event. Also, they usually have once-in-a-lifetime musical numbers or highlights.

The Oscars is something that I look forward to every year and when they announced that Ellen DeGeneres will host the 86th Academy Awards, I was pretty excited. I used to watch her a lot when I was on maternity leave as I found her so entertaining. True enough, she literally delivered.

There was this bit wherein she had pizza delivered and offered it to her audience. For a supposedly formal and stuffy event, she made it fun and interacted with her audience a lot.



Of course, who would forget the most talked about selfie that she took with A-list stars (I would definitely want to be in that photo). And it was retweeted more than 3 million times and counting and it broke Twitter as well.



I was ecstatic when Frozen won as the song really resonated across all ages, sex and race. However, I was desolated when Leo lost the Oscar race for Best Actor once again. When he won in the Golden Globes, I really thought he'll have the chance. There's always next year though. Hopefully, he and Martin Scorsese can come up with another Oscar-worthy vehicle for him.

The Walking Dead

I was not aware of this series until my husband tuned to this last night where it premiered in 4 different local Fox stations. I initially thought that it was a drama series but when he woke up in the hospital alone, it made me think of Resident Evil. But somehow, the zombies here are different. They only walk.

Though I was deathly scared of zombies, I could not tear my eyes away from the screen. True enough, I could not sleep afterwards.

I still want to watch it though, but not late at night. I'll try to look for the replay times (hopefully in the morning) and I'll watch it then.

In case you're trying to figure out where you've seen the "bida" before, he was in "Love Actually" as the guy who fell in love with his best friend's wife--the one with the placards.

Front Act with Mike and Stanley

It's seldom that a TV program will catch my attention--and a local show at that. While changing channels from ABS-CBN to QTV, I suddenly paused at ABC5 when there was this guy trying out hopia and tikoy at Eng Bee Tin. Since I didn't get any tikoy this recent Chinese New Year, I just watched with envy as he devoured the delicacies.

I watched more and I found out at the show was called Front Act with Mike and Stanley. There was something fresh and funny about these two guys. There were some technical aspects in the show that I didn't like but overall, these two somehow entertains me.

Catch Front Act every Sundays at 6PM at ABC5.

Discovery Home and Health

The above is one of the channels of Discovery and unfortunately, it's only available under the Skycable Platinum subscription. Skycable though shows some channels from their Platinum program every few weeks and we managed to catch some shows from this channel this week.

This evening, we caught a program which showed a woman delivering her first baby. Leo and I watched the show and we were both squeamish afterwards--especially him. I think he's dreading joining me at the delivery room when he saw all that blood.

They also show interesting shows involving families and child-rearing. Too bad it's only available at Platinum. It's becoming one of my favourite channels.

What Did I Do On My Vacation?

I stayed at home for the past 2 weeks as ordered by my doctor. Only venturing out to go to mass or go to my doctor. So what did I do the past 2 weeks?

1. Watch TV
Thank God for cable. I became a couch potato and have memorized most of the program schedules. For instance, I watch Ellen and the Price is Right from 1 to 3 pm everyday and afterwhich, I take a nap. There are also the replays of CSIs (yup, all 3) which can be found at AXN (Ch 49) and Fox Crime (Ch 50) either early in the morning or in the evening starting at 8PM.
Chuck is showing on Mondays, CSI on Tuesdays (NY) and Wednesdays (LV and Miami), Amazing Race Asia replay on Wednesdays (before CSI Las Vegas). Yeah, lots of wonderful shows on the boob tube.
By the way, Price is Right--my new favourite show. :) Not only are the games interesting but they sure have a LOT of wacky contestants.

2. Internet Surfing
The Almighty Internet--and a dual connection at that. I never figured out why Leo wanted 2 DSL providers (PLDT and Globe) at home. Thank God he pushed through with it as PLDT has the tendency to go down. That's why Leo programmed my default to Globe which surprisingly has a better connection.

3. Sleep
Oh yeah, the best thing there is. My baby is one happy peapod as his/her mommy was able to get some rest away from the stress. Sure, work intrudes once inawhile (like yesterday, I received more than a dozen emails from work as we're going to face something big starting today or tomorrow and my OIC wants my opinion on some of the stuff that he will be doing to handle it). But at least I get to sleep whenever I want and wake up whenever I want. I need to store up as after a few months, I'm sure I won't be able to sleep as much.

4. Read
I didn't have anything new to read as I already finished Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Series (yup, all 3 of them). So I eagerly await my People subscription that comes every Tuesday or Wednesday and reread my mommy books. I still have my People crossword that keeps me preoccupied as well.

5. Eat
Well, not as much as I want. Last week was bad for me. I couldn't eat whatever was served as I didn't like it and weird enough, I HATED the smell of vinegar as it smelled like rotten food! Leo said he could not smell anything but the whole dining area stank!  Odd though, I could stomach it again this week. I had to think what I wanted to eat everyday and I had Leo go out and buy it. So far, I made him buy Chowking noodles, Reyes Barbecue liempo and McDonald's. Yeah, not as healthy as it should be, but it was the only thing I wanted to eat at that time.
This week was relatively better. I could eat what was served but only at little amounts. Not like last week where I could not really eat at all.

That's basically it. I know it's not as productive as I wanted it to be, but at least I had the rest that I need. The real world beckons next week and I have to prepare for that as well.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

I've always been a CSI fan. Avid, rabid fan actually since Season 1. I religiously follow each season and even watch the reruns. I have the cases and the characters fascinating. However, I love the original version (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) more rather than the spin-offs (CSI: Miami and CSI: New York).

CSI is now on it's 8th season, well it did not have 20+ episodes due to the writer's strike but it was enough. I already watched the final episode today and I was really sad. Not only did they lose another cast member this season but maybe they'll be short of another one on Season 9--that is if they're still planning to come up with Season 9. Though I know they have to end sometime, I still hope they won't.

On a funny note, they're second to the last episode for this episode was hilarious. They were poking fun at themselves--especially when they were talking about the Emmy's. (They've been nominated four times but they haven't won.)  It was funny the way Gil Grissom said it. They were investigating the murder of an Emmy-winning comedian and he saw an Emmy statue at the corner, picked it up and said, "So this is what an Emmy looks like." Hahaha.

Anyway, with Sarah gone next season and probably another one, I hope the storylines and cases will still be interesting. It's funny though, I don't seem to find the blood and gore that comes with it.

Go Ellen!

Being incarcerated for the past two and a half days, the TV became my bestfriend. Thank God for cable as I never had a dull moment.

Today, I managed to catch 3 episodes of Ellen in 3 different channels. She's really hilarious. She's more entertaining to watch than Oprah (well, I don't watch Oprah so I don't know if I should compare). But she certainly has more charisma than other talk show hosts.

Not to mention the games that she has in the show and the gifts that she gives to her audience. My gosh.

The recent episode I saw was when she held her show at Orlando. Episodes must be a couple of weeks late as Chikezee was voted out of American Idol and he was her guest. Kelly Pickler was there too singing about her red high heels.

I hope that I'll be able to watch a show of hers live when we go to the US later this year. She really is funny.

Overwork Addict

I think I'm addicted to overworking.

I can go for weeks working for 12 hours. Skipping dinners as I would get home past dinnertime and I'm so exhausted that I'll just drop in bed and wake up really hungry but would lose my appetite when I would see the food.

After all that meal skipping, I should lose weight but I compensate for the skipped meals by eating unhealthy carbs.

As mentioned yesterday, I was sick last Monday and when I went to the doctor today, I was diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Tract Infection prescribed with 1-3 days of rest with amoxicillin and a lozenge for my sore throat. Lots of fruits and juices, so there.

I should take it easy if I am to meet the challenges that are thrown to me at work. I have to be healthy if I am going to lead my team to meet our targets this year. Moreover, my boss from group will be arriving next week so I have to be up and about!

On a different note, Ramielle Malubay got voted out of American Idol today. Can't say I'm heartbroken over it. Her performance these past few weeks leaves much to be desired and the other contestants really outshone her (well not all). I especially love David Cook. He reminds me of Daughtry but he has his own style. Others like David Archuleta but he sounds so boyband. Let's just see.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

My new favourite show.

I saw an episode before and I was amazed by the show's generousity and how they could build a house (exterior, interior with design) in just 7 days. I just caught the ending of an episode in the Velvet channel today.

It's not only the new houses that I love but the stories behind the houseowners. I find myself teary-eyed after each episode.

Mommy Elvie's Problematic Show

The show is a spin-off from the Misadventures of Maverick and Ariel. Mommy Elvie is Ariel's mom. The premise of the show is that Mommy Elvie wants to be famous before she turns 80. I saw an advertisement of this show months before but I keep on forgetting to catch it on TV. A few weeks ago, an officemate shared that he managed to catch an episode and it was so hilarious. I resolved that I'll try to catch it whenever I can.

Good thing I came home early today and while channel surfing after Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition (I love Yayo Aguila so sue me), I chanced upon the show at ABC5.

I did not know how the spisode started but by the time I tuned in, Ariel was interviewing Long Mejia in his home at Bulacan. Apparently, Long ran for councilor in the recent elections but he lost. After the interview, Long asked if he could hitch a ride back to Manila.

Next scene shows Mommy Elvie trying to wake up Ariel and she mistakenly thought Long to be a girl. It's hilarious the way she trades puns with her son and with Long (when he finally woke up). I fell off my chair laughing. I could feel the laugh all the way up to my head. That's how funny the show was. Especially when Ariel told his mom that Long will be staying with them for a month. Her facial expressions were priceless.

Anyway, try to catch the show if you can. 10pm Tuesdays at ABC5.
