Leo's now 30!

Leo celebrated his 30th birthday last Friday. It was unfortunate that we had a class activity that day, thus we could not take the day off to really celebrate it. After our seminar which ended at 6 pm, we headed off to Manila where he had to go back to the office to just check his program and we went to Robinson's Manila to have dinner at TGIF. It was really quite uneventful. I gave him a Charriol bracelet to match the one he gave me for our anniversary.

Why I Love CSI

I actually wrote this blogpost on paper but the problem now is, I can't remember where I placed it! So, I hope I can still write from memory.

I've been watching CSI since it first came out in AXN more than four or five years ago. I remembered my friends giving me the complete season 1 on dvd for my birthday. I was hooked by the twists and puzzles presented by the stories. It had become a habit for me to set aside Wednesday night (and Sunday lunch/dinner) just to be able to watch the episodes.

The episode this week was one of my favourites. It's the last episode of a two-part series, and it made me cry! Now, a TV show hasn't done that to me for quite some time so this must've been really special. Well, I guess it was.

The story basically is about a police officer and a civilian who died in a shooting match between the police and some thugs. As it turns out, the police was killed by friendly fire and the fatal shot coming from Jim Brass. The civilian was killed by one of the suspects who tried to escape (the father of the victim initially blamed the police). On the wake held for the officer, Jim went to pay his respects and approached the widow. One could imagine what she could just do. Here's your husband's killer (though it was an accident) standing right in front of you. What would you do? And what she did just made me and my aunt cry. She hugged Jim and even consoled him by saying that it's not his fault. And Jim Brass was reduced to tears, and so were we.

Frustrations

It has been a frustrating day. Lots of aspects and I don't know where to start.

Well, let's start with my foot.

I had to depend on my cousin/aunt to take me to work today. I could not very well walk on my sore foot so I waited for them to get ready so I can go to work. Apparently, we were just waiting for each other to get ready so I ended up 30 minutes late at work. When I got to work, I met up with more frustrations.

Since we transferred to Operations January this year, a lot of our processes have changed. One of the practices that we had to adapt was productivity monitoring. It's a really tedious process wherein you have to note down what you did in every minute that you spent at work. It's difficult to backtrack and remember what you did on a certain day but it's mandated so we have to follow. It's our manager's basis for our performance appraisal. I know we'll get used to it but it's really very frustrating.

After meeting my daily quota and noting down how I spent the 7.5 hours at work, I limped off to school where our teacher is again conducting an online class. Now that's really frustrating. I think we only met 5 times in the whole 14 weeks of classes. Am not particularly fond of sitting in a room for 3 hours, but I want to learn something new with regards to this subject.

At least now, my foot is very much better. I could walk on it without screaming in pain. I went to see an orthopedic this morning and he just prescribed a better painkiller other than Ibuprofen (he gave me Arcoxia). Oh, and I should have my foot x-rayed if the pain persists and maybe consider therapy.

Pain it Is

My foot felt better yesterday. Nevertheless, I didn't go out and stayed at home to do my paper, only going out with Leo for dinner (Carlo's Pizza in BF--yummy food but it was too cold. My 4 cheese pizza became stone cold after a few minutes).

However, when I woke up this morning, my left foot felt painful again. I got up, tried putting my weight on it and I yelped out in pain. Since Leo was picking me up to go to mass, I tried to get ready as quickly as I could, hobbling around in my painful foot. I hobbled to the 2nd floor bathroom but it was locked! Moreover, there was no water! Hell, we just had water delivered yesterday. There must be a busted pipe in one of the bathrooms that caused the water to waste away. So I slowly hopped down the stairs and asked one of the maids to bring me water in the downstairs bathroom. I propped up my foot on one of the stools and took a bath as quickly as I could. By the time I was done and getting dressed in my room, the water delivery truck arrived, and with it, Leo's message on my cellphone that he's on his way.

When I went out the bedroom door, there was some sort of commotion going on downstairs. Apparently, they discovered the broken pipe and the downstairs bathroom (where I just took a bath) was flooded. The maids were asking me what to do and I just looked at them blankly. What do I know about plumbing?! And you expect me to wade into the flooded bathroom with my sore foot?! Good thing my grandmother and the fix-all-around guy was there and they took care of it.

So we went to church and I sat on the pew with my leg propped up on the kneeler. I knew it was not elevated enough and I could feel it getting more painful by the minute. It did not help that I insisted to stand on the parts where people were supposed to stand. In the end, Leo got tired of me flinching in pain that he told me to just sit down throughout the mass-which I did. After the mass, I hopped down the stairs with Leo's assistance, but I told him to get the car while I negotiate the last few steps. Unfortunately, I realized I wouldn't get anywhere without any assistance, so I tried to slowly hop down the stairs. Apparently, someone took pity on me that this lady and her companion approached me and helped me down the stairs. They even took me to the car and ensured I was safely inside. I was very touched by their kindness. Obviously, I'm not the type would ask help from total stranges.

Here I am now at Leo's house doing this blog with my leg/foot propped up on a chair. Leo already rebandaged my foot and I was crying while he was doing that. I don't know why I cried. My foot was not as painful as last Thursday, maybe I felt frustrated, or maybe I was just touched by the gesture of the stranger who helped me earlier. Whatever it is, I felt better afterwards.

Threshold of Pain

Last Thursday, my threshold for physical pain was once again tested.

I went to my bi-weekly appointment with my personal trainer last Thursday lunch time. On the way back, it was drizzling a bit and my left foot sort of twisted inward. It was ok except my left foot was already sore from my cardio workout Wednesday night. When I got back to the office, I ignored the pain and hoped it would go away. But when Leo picked me up that night, the pain worsened.

When I got home, I could barely walk. I could barely sit still in the car cause even if my foot was relaxed, it still hurt. When I got home, I cried all over Leo since the pain was really so bad. I even scheduled a session with my masseuse hoping she would be able to work the kinks away but the pain was still there. Giving up, I had my cousin take me to the 24-hour clinic at the corner.

The doctor on duty said that I sprained my foot. I refused to believe him since I had this misconception that in order for a muscle/bone to be sprained, the area affected should be swelling. But he said, a sprain could happen without signs of swelling. So he bandaged my foot and gave me instructions to keep it elevated and stay off it for a couple of days. However, being month-end last Friday, I asked permission whether I could still go to work as my colleague was on leave. He said ok as long as I keep my foot/leg elevated and gave me Ibuprofen for the pain. So I had my aunt take me to work and I spent most of the day on my ass, only getting up to go to the restroom. I had my officemates carry, get and buy stuff for me. It's nice to have an excuse.
