While reading today's newspaper I saw this article about Claudio Teehankee Jr. being released in the dead of night. Bits and pieces of what happened then came trickling back and it's good that the article refreshed my memory on what I've forgotten.
On 1991, Claudio Teehankee Jr (yes, the namesake of the former Supreme Court justice) shot and killed Maureen Hultman and Roland Chapman, wounding Jussi Leino as well. All in their early 20's. There was no logical reason or motive why he killed them. He just confronted them in a street corner in Dasmarinas Village and just shot them after accosting them. Fortunately, Leino lived to tell the tale and testify against Teehankee.
Teehankee was released for good conduct behavior and he is sorry for the sins he has committed against society. But a part of me is very troubled by this development. Heck, I can only imagine what the Hultman and Chapman families must feel right now knowing that their daughter/son/sister/brother's killer is out and free. Is spending 17 years in prison payment enough for taking 2 human lives and wounding another?
Hay naku.

If he wasn't released IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT then his "good behaviour" reason would have still had some credibility.
Why the secrecy?
as i remember it, the news article then wrote that the 4 are in a bar. and maureen shrugged off teehankee's advances/interest on her. speaking of a man scorned and his fury.
he followed the group when they left, and was able to confront maureen and her friends near her home in forbes, makati. sad, the event then and the event now. a precursor to review even other "clemency" given out or to be given out by the palace.
btw, nice layout! :)
only 17 years for taking 2 lives and assaulting another one?! it seems that "palakasan" still reigns supreme in rp. i feel so sorry for the remaining relatives of his victims. i wonder how his relations would feel if the tables were turned.
ps. this is the first time i have heard of this case but i gather it is a high profile one because of who the KILLER is or who he is related to? and to add salt to the wounds - he was pardoned by the president -a decision that cannot be questioned! such injustice!!!!
are they foreigners?
what do you mean - he just felt like killing them?
this is rediculous!!! what about the families of his victims?
so he kills her for a bruised ego instead?! why was he so arrogant?
> he is sorry for the sins he has committed against society ...
he deserves the death penalty ..
He was the son of the former Supreme Court Chief Justice then.. during President Cory's time. The former Chief Justice Claudio Teehankee, Sr. was the one who sworn Cory Aquino as president. The brother of Teehankee Jr. is now an ambassador and I think he has some kind of a clout with the president administration.
Accordingly the family was offered Php 3M now... or is it 6M...
that explains it. ambassador to where?
in short he and his family expects everything to be alright with the relatives of the victims because he paid 3 million pesos or around $75K? if the present administration would want to earn some brownie points - he should be made an example and left to live the remainder of his life behind bars. he committed the crime - he should do the time. i think kaya maraming mayayabang diyan because they know they can get away with the right connection.
I firmly believe that there is no such thing as fair justice in this world--no human court could bring back broken lives. However, I do believe that whatever goes around comes around so this chap Teehankee better watch his back. He will sleep the sleep of the damned. He will live a life of hell on earth and no amount of regret on his part will ease his guilt.
i strongly believe there's money involved bet the teehankees and the arroyos.
it's weird na napalabas nila si teehankee. i remember recently, may isa rin na pinardon pero last minute, binawi. was that the calauan mayor?
btw, rolito go's case is also being reviewed. baka siya, mabigyan din ng pardon. rolito go was the one who shot eldon maguan (a la salle student) over a traffic altercation in san juan last 1991.

nililibang ang mga tao with a drama so the attention of the masses will get distracted away from more serious issues such as unemployment and government corruption.
Hear hear. That's a well worn PR ploy! Feed the masses drama and they forget the real issues.
wala akong masabi sa balita. for me, they're hard core criminals. marami pang mas deserving sa executive clemency kesa sa kanila. there are more aged people in muntinlupa who are supposed to benefit from this power of the president, criminals who are old and nearing the end of their lives. this is just plain sick and unreasonable.
pakawalan na lang nila lahat ng mga murderers baka sakaling mapagplanuhan silang murder-in! haaaaaaay! nakakapang-init ng ulo talaga!
