Being on my 6th month, my OB ordered a new batch of tests for me--OGTT or Oral Glucose Tolerance Test is one of them.
I had the same test last July during my first trimester and I hated it then. Since I was nauseous, it took so much from me to prevent myself from throwing up as if I do so, I have to drink the whole damn thing all over again and it's really unpleasant. Just remembering the taste makes me want to throw up. The taste is like Royal Tru Orange with double the sugar. Right now, I just want to avoid anything orangy.
Since Leo is in Jakarta, I had to go through the whole thing alone. I brought my DS with me and a couple of books which I was not able to read as I was pretty much preoccupied by my DS. Since the test requires fasting, I was ravenous when I was done at 1130. I was actually at the hospital at 730 but due to the great number of people who were there first thing in the morning due to blood test fasting, it took awhile before my name as called.
Much to my regret though, the MT who took my blood did a poor job in doing the first draw. This year alone, I've been prodded and pricked so many times that I've grown immune to needles and blood already. However, it really HURT when she did the extraction. Up to now my arm is sore and the vein looks swollen. She took two vials from that vein and it absolutely hurts! For the next draw, I asked that they extract from my right arm instead. But after the 3rd draw, my right arm was hurting as well so I asked them to draw from my sore left arm again with the request that they look for another vein. You can just imagine my relief after that last draw.
Belatedly, I was thinking if it was possible that they just inserted a heparin lock and just draw blood from there every hour. Is it possible or is it for injection purposes only?
Anyway, I need a nap to sleep away the effects of the fasting.

gusto mong tang? hehehe!
pahinga ka muna
was she a trainee? should'nt paying patients have more experienced mt's? why were you mistaken for a pin cushion? what hospital was this?
how many more of these tests do you need to take? when will you have an indication if you are having a normal delivery?
she's not a trainee. this is in asian hospital--a supposedly first class hospital. i've always had my blood tests done there ever since i got pregnant. this was the first time that i've encountered this much pain--maybe because it's a weekday?
today's test was an OGTT and a CBC. i read somewhere that some ready-to-give birth moms are asked to have a pelvic xray to check how big the birth canal is. i don't know if my doctor will prescribe the same thing. i'll ask her in my next check-up and if i have other tests that i should get ready for.
actually, i appreciate the thoroughness of my doctor. i've heard good things about her from other patients who are also my officemates. they told me that she's already in the delivery room whenever her patients are in labor, even if they're not yet ready to give birth. i hope it'll be the same for me.
I thought of you as a strong person... Kayang kaya muyan Shine. Think of your son smiling at you after you give birth.
hi sunshiny!
just under gone this test yesterday...
ganun yata pag "sweet" kang tao! hehehe!
my fbs exam was on the upper limit na kaya my doctor decided to give me the OGTT for double checking...
hi friend!
